I do this thread on every forum at one point or another but usually not with the spooky part.
I know, I know, Pac-Men isn't spooky so it can't be counted but there's been spooky games being made since the start of video games. For example, there was a Halloween game for the Atari 2600.
My favorites are still the same, the list rarely changes.
1. Resident Evil 2 This game just was outstanding when it came out, it was actually a little scary. I mean Leon and Claire having to not only worry about zombies but all sorts of weird things coming out of the dark, and usually when I was out of ammo so I had to run for it.
2. FEAR Its a classic first person shooter that is scary as hell, it kind of reminds me of a cross between a spy film and a Stephen King story, and its just a trip.
3. The Walking Dead: Chapter 1 More of an interactive story based on the Walking Dead world but with all new characters, very good story and the choices made impact how the story plays out, total classic.
4. Resident Evil 4 This game was a game changer on how horror games evolved from the 90's into the 2000's, total trip. Not scary like the 2nd game but still a lot of spooky fun.
5. The Sims 5 Ok, I'm screwing around, the game isn't even out yet. However, it will be the first Sims game to allow people to play online with one another. So if you have kids who are into the SIms, they'll really never come out of their room when this game comes out because they'll be able to do everything the Sims can do with their friends online, they'll forget about the real world outside. That's kind of spooky...

It’s a shame I can’t allow playing video games at present (instead, I have several novels to write lol). But I can recall something from my Sega console era . I wasn’t too hard to frighten as a small child (I started playing since I was 5 or 6 y.o.), so some game characters seemed scary as hell to me. At least two examples would be boss Medusa from Ariel the Little Mermaid, and a minor jellyfish-like enemy from Ghostbusters. I think some of their creepiness for me came from their being under water. Sometimes I even dream about playing video games where my character meets terrible monsters that live in underwater caves or something .

It's several years old but the Tomb Raider game I'm playing here and there, its got a Blair Witch feel to it. There are bad guys that Lara has to deal with but there's something much more evil lurking in the darkness based on evidence she's found in the game. Its kind of like Blair Witch, she knows the evil is out there but just hasn't seen it yet. I can easily go on Wikipedia and read the spoilers but I think I want to be surprised. I'm hoping it plays into some ancient mythology of some kind, maybe druid.
There really aren't many new games I play, I tend to play the older ones, they seemed to focus a bit more on the story, while now its more about the graphics, which I enjoy but not at the price of a good story. As Dizzy may remember, I really into Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow 2. The story was just super cool and the ending was a reward, but sadly they never made a sequel, they did a new story instead.
Oh well... can't have it all.
