Oh wow, I didn’t read “How This Works” post properly and then searched in vain where I could tell about a funny band I discovered by chance some time ago . But I’m really bad at promoting. Well let’s the music speak for itself. A short introductory note: there’s an old Slovak band Lahka Muza that seems pretty obscure to me (despite their age and 6 studio albums). But I think these guys do enjoy a moderate cult following. One website describes their music as psychedelic gothic rock / experimental cold ritual darkwave (too wordy, but can give a clue as to what you should expect). I can’t say if they’re too mediocre, but one of the reasons of their obscurity must be their obstinate singing in Slovak. Imo, there are just a few bands who were able to achieve popularity without switching to English. But I’m not sure LM even aimed for that. To me a non-English language isn’t a problem. And Slovak in particular sounds a bit funny to my ear (which isn’t a bad thing with me).
Besides, their lyrics is often non-verbal. The vocalist likes to chirp, scream, howl, and her deep voice makes it sound interesting rather then silly. These music and singing aren’t for everyday listening, though. There’s something primeval, trancelike and intense about them, although little diversity and complexity. Could be nice for a certain mood or clearing your head of more rational kind of music (and thoughts ).
Their style of performing isn’t for every taste either, but I think watching them can encourage some people who are afraid to look weird. The vocalist and the girls they often bring onstage seem to tell that confidence is the one thing you really need . Well, that’s how it impressed me. Many people are likely to just think, “Oh shit, what is this?” when watching LM perform .
And they may be not so obscure, after all, as there’s an English version of their website.
